Kurultai election: voter turnout among Kazakhstanis abroad revealed

Tengrinews.kz — All 79 polling stations set up at Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions abroad have closed. Voting took place in 61 countries.

According to Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, 9,623 citizens cast their ballots abroad. Voter turnout was 84.8 percent.

August 23 — Election Day

On August 23, Kazakhstan held elections to the Kurultai. Citizens were asked to vote for a party that would gain seats in the unicameral Parliament.

The election was the first since Kazakhstan’s new Constitution, adopted in a nationwide referendum on March 15, entered into force on July 1, 2026. Under the new constitutional provisions, the former bicameral Parliament ceased its powers, and the country’s legislative body became the unicameral Kurultai.

The Kurultai will consist of 145 deputies elected for five-year terms.

Following the election, the Central Election Commission will establish the final voting results.
