Oil prices surge amid new US strikes on Iran
Tengrinews.kz — Global oil prices surged on Tuesday after the United States launched new strikes on Iranian targets and U.S. President Donald Trump warned Tehran that any retaliation by Iran would trigger a much more powerful attack.
According to trading data, WTI crude rose 5.2 percent to $90.22 per barrel, its highest closing price since July 23.
Brent crude climbed 4.6 percent to $94.65 per barrel.
Earlier on Tuesday, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had begun striking facilities belonging to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohebi said the United States would face severe punishment and would regret the new strikes. Trump warned Tehran of a much larger attack if Iran retaliated against U.S. military actions, publishing the warning on his Truth Social account.
Media reports said the strikes hit several targets along Iran’s southern coast, including a military base in Bandar Abbas, a facility on Qeshm Island, as well as targets in Sirik and Jask.
On Sunday, August 30, the United States struck two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. It was the first U.S. strike on the Islamic Republic since late July. In response, Iran launched at least eight ballistic missiles at U.S. military facilities in Jordan on Monday.
