The future of war is now one step closer with Lockheed Martin's successfully test of the ATHENA laser weapon system. 

ATHENA short for Advanced Test High Energy Asset, can burn through a vehicle hood and destroy the engine.

During the test, the truck was mounted on a test platform over a mile away from the weapon.

The vehicle's engine was engaged and running.
