For my generation, 1990s alt-rock was a golden era of music. It was an era in which rock music actually landed into the mainstream and could be heard without having to look for it on the Internets. Pearl Jam. Nirvana. STP. The list goes on and on when one thinks of influential bands from that decade. Filter also come to mind, and they're still very much around and very amazing.
