Twin Taliban blasts in Kabul kill 24, injure 91

At least 24 people were killed and 91 wounded Monday in a Taliban double bombing near the defence ministry in central Kabul during rush hour, the latest assault on the Afghan capital. A suicide bomber struck the area just minutes after the first explosion, in an assault apparently aimed at inflicting mass casualties as officials left the ministry after work. Apple CEO Tim Cook on Thursday continued to rail against the European Commission for Competition's ruling that the company got a special deal from Ireland to avoid taxes, which is against EU rules.

The commission is ordering Apple to pay $14.5 billion in back taxes. Apple and Ireland strongly disagree with the ruling and plan to appeal. In an interview with RTE, Ireland's public broadcaster, Cook called it an "invalid, politically-based ruling."
