Father killed, two hurt in family feud
Police are searching for a man involed in a family feud which resulted in a Pietermaritzburg father being shot dead.
|||Pietermaritzburg - Pietermaritzburg residents united in their grief this weekend for a young husband and father of two, Akesh Singh, who was shot in what was believed to be a family feud.
Singh, who sustained three gunshot wounds in the shooting, lost the fight for his life at St Anne’s Hospital on Friday.
According to police reports, Singh was involved in a shoot-out in Stork Road, Northdale, on Wednesday evening, when he, his wife Natalie, and mother-in-law were shot after a heated argument with a member of their family, who is still on the run from police.
Police confirmed on Sunday that the shooter, whose name is known to the Daily News, was still at large but his arrest was imminent.
It is still unclear what started the argument, which eventually turned physical between Singh and the suspect.
The shooter then allegedly drew a firearm and started firing wildly in all directions.
Singh was shot in the head, left shoulder and chest. His wife and mother-in-law were both shot in their legs.
Singh’s funeral, which was held on Saturday, was attended by hundreds of people, family and friends who wanted to show support for Natalie and the couple’s two young children, Nazalie and Joshua.
One friend, Deena Naidoo, described Singh as a “genuine, kind, respected man and an incredible father, husband and friend”.
“He loved God and he loved his family. The earth is poorer for having lost such a beautiful soul,” Naidoo said.
