Lawmakers consider changes to who manages weigh stations
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — The New Mexico Department of Transportation has asked lawmakers to change how weigh stations are managed in hopes of capturing the $56 million a year that analysts say the state is losing to truckers who don't pay fees.
The Santa Fe New Mexican reports (http://bit.ly/1JxJsJL ) that members of the House Transportation and Public Works Committee expressed support Friday for the proposal, which would put Transportation Department employees in charge of the state's ports of entries.
