Copter goes down in dry river bed; pilot not seriously hurt

PHOENIX (AP) — The pilot of a private helicopter escaped serious injury when it crash-landed in the dry bed of the Salt River in Phoenix after taking off from Sky Harbor International Airport.

Red Riddle-Bigler of the Phoenix Fire Department said the helicopter's engine failed after takeoff Sunday evening, and a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said the agency will investigate.
