Bavuma has faith in Proteas bowling attack
Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma believes his side has done more than enought to secure victory in the fourth Test against England.
|||South Africa has done enough with the bat, now it was up to the bowling attack to remove England’s last and slightly wobbly legs to claim their first Test victory in little over a year.
Only seven more wickets stood in the way of South Africa turning the corner with three wickets falling before the close of play on the fourth day after England were set a target of 382 to win.
“They were big wickets getting guys like Alastair Cook, we would have loved to get (Joe) Root as well but we will be going out with our heads held high and we will be firing from all cylinders and hopefully we can finish the game as soon as possible,” Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma said after the day’s play.
“If the rain comes in, it comes in, so I guess we'll just try to finish the game as soon as possible.”
England were limping on 52 for three at stumps needing 330 more runs for the victory with a 2-0 series victory already in the bag.
Bavuma (78 not out), who missed out on his second Test century before South Africa declared during a rain delay, believed his side had done enough to give the Proteas a good chance of winning.
“We believe the score we amassed is more than enough especially on that wicket, so we will look to exploit that bounce as much as possible,” he said.
The 25-year-old Bavuma said South Africa’s improved performance in the fourth match could be the spark to take the Proteas out of its slump.
South Africa have played nine Tests since their last victory against the West Indies in the ‘New Year’s Test’ at Newlands a year ago.
“We haven’t been consistent, playing good cricket in patches, which was frustrating from that point of view,” Bavuma said.
“But we are looking ahead, and maybe this could be the start of good things for us going forward if we can build on whatever momentum we are able to gather from this game.”
