The Rivers South East Senatorial candidate, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe has taken exception to the double-speak of Governor Nyesom Wike, on the issue of violence and reconciliation in the state since supreme court affirmed his governor’s mandate.

Senator Abe who spoke to a cross section of journalists in Port Harcourt today said it is worrisome that a governor would had earlier called on opposition to  work with him in his administration to develop it would few days later turn round to charge at the same opposition in the church during a  thanksgiving service.

The Senator said: “How can you work with a man who had made reconciliatory speech  in his broadcast to the state speech on the day of the Supreme court victory,which is expected of him as Governor and Dr Dakuku Peterside, the APC candidate responded favourably saying that he and his party would be ready to work with him only the same say a different thing in Church calling himself a “Lion and Tiger”.Nobody will want to work with a Tiger or Lion.It will eat you up.”

On whether he is optimistic if the rerun election scheduled for March 19 would be devoid of violence, Senator Abe said “I see dangerous signal of violence deteriorating into something akin to a civil war in next rerun election if we don’t stop the baseless personal attacks as Politicians. Politicians are arming youths for politics. Let security agencies go after those who are benefiting from violence,their sponsors.

“I have never,and would never be in a meeting where it is planned the youths should be armed to kill each other,while their Children are schooling in United Kingdom or the best private schools. I challenge anybody who has evidence that I have ever.

“If the whole fight is about how to win and for the interest of developing the people then our youths should not be armed to kill themselves. I challenge my opponents to run issue-base campaigns and eschew violence-base campaigns that is heating up the polity.We should tell people what we have done for them.Let my opponents say what have done for the people. We should centre our campaigns on that.”

He lamented that because of violence, crimes and criminalities in the state, most companies doing businesses in the state have closed shop and relocated to states where they can guarantee peace and security and thousands of jobs are lost on a daily basis.

“Today, Rivers State is dying, go to Trans-Amadi Industrial Layout in Port Harcourt, the area is virtually empty.”

On the opinion being canvassed in some quarters that the election petition should be terminated at the Supreme Court, Abe who is also a Lawyer,said: “if you accept the judgment of the Supreme Court judgment as final for the Governorship election petition,you should also accept the Appeal Court judgment as final.As a Lawyer, I don’t criticize Court judgments.But doesn’t mean as lawyers we cannot have different opinion about Supreme Court judgment. Once a decision is reached at the Apex Court we abide by it so that cases would be settled and we must all abide by it.”

Abe said if performance and track record would be the yardstick for voters to chose who should represent them at the Senate: “I will say I am the most qualified. Rather than buy guns,I gave scholarships, connect power to communities, gave employments etc. Let my opponents state what they have done for the people.”

On the posting of Aniedi Ikoiwak as the new Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and redeployment of Gesilia Khan, ABe said no REC Commissioner would be able to do what Gesilia Khan did without the active connivance with the Presidency under Goodluck Jonathan.

He expressed optimism that Ikoiwak would conduct a credible election.
