Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River state has made good his promise of a welfarist government as well as creating an enabling environment for all in Cross River to grow and develop.
In this light, the governor on Monday, February 8 announced the slashing of his salary by 80 percent and that of his deputy governor, Professor Ivara Esu by 20 percent.

The decision to voluntarily slash his salary was communicated to the public by the commissioner for information and orientation, Mrs. Rosemary Archibong at a press briefing held at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Centre in Calabar.
The governor also slashed the salaries of all the executive council members in the state by 20 percent.
Aside from the need to cut cost of governance especially in the wake of the free-fall of oil prices in the international market, Mrs. Archibong reiterated the commitment of the governor to ensure that governance percolates to the very least in the society. This she said will help in increasing participation in governance.
“This is predicated on the fact that the governor, Prof. Ben Ayade wants governance to reach as far as it can possibly reach while increasing participation in government.
“With a lot of financial burden, we decided voluntarily to forego part of our emolument to help meet the personnel needs, human needs of Cross River state government in support of its vision, policies and programs,” she said.
Speaking further on the gesture of the governor, the Cross River state image-maker lauded the initiative adding that it will help the state government to deepen the loyalty and trust the between her and the people.
She also called on Cross River indigenes to give their maximum support to the people-inclined administration of the governor, clarifying that the slash in salaries is not connected to the salaries of civil servant in the state.

You will recall that Governor Ben Ayade was praised for the prompt payment of December and January salaries of workers in the state.
The governor, beating the federal government and other state governments, was the first to pay salaries during this period which sent a strong message of confidence to the people of the state and beyond.
