Wild elephant rampages through city, smashes cars and buildings (photos, video)
– An elephant went on a rampage in Siliguri, West Bengali state, India on Wednesday
– The animal was running through the town for seven hours, damaging up to 100 buildings
– It was eventually subdued with tranquilliser guns
A fully grown elephant caused chaos in the city of Siliguri West Bengal state, on February 10, after going wild and smashing numerous houses, cars and motorbikes.
Once the effect of the tranquilizer wore off, authorities plan to return the elephant to the forest
According to local media reports, at least 100 building were damaged or partially destroyed by the panick-stricken animal.

The female elephant ran amok in Siliguri in West Bengal state, India, trampling parked cars and motorbikes before it was tranquilized
Witnesses say the beast was covered in blood and entered the town from the Baikunthapur forest nearby.
The elephant had wandered from the Baikunthapur forest on Wednesday, crossing roads and a small river before entering the town
Hundreds of people gathered on their balconies and rooftops of their houses to watch the majestic animal running through the city.
“The elephant was scared and was trying to go back to the jungle,”one of the locals said.
After fleeing onto balconies, local residents began filming the rampaging elephant
It took seven hours and several injections of tranquilizer to stop the wild elephant.

Forestry officials lifted it into a truck and took to a special park for domesticated pachyderms. It would be later released into the jungle once healthy and calm again.
The panicked elephant was seen covered in blood and cuts as it careered down the streets
Local wildlife experts believe the female elephant was not aggresive just scared, as she didn’t attack people and most likley was searching for food. Luckily, no injuries or casualties were reported.
