The OPC held that the defaulters were involved in activities unfitting for the society, adding that the group’s public image had suffered as a result of this.
According to Punch, some of the expelled members include Akeem Ologburo from Bayelsa, Marruf Salami from Kwara, Adeola Adeagbo from Ondo and Boye Mayungbe.
The affected members were all former coordinators in the group until reportedly found wanting.
The group speaking through its media director, Yinka Oguntimehin, said the affected members involved in anti-congress activities. He lamented the problems the activities had brought upon the congress’ public image adding that the members were dismissed as a result.
He emphasized that the OPC had enjoyed a fairly positive image in recent times owing to its support of security agencies in the South West region of the nation, as a result of which unethical members could not be allowed a place in the group.
He said: “The expelled members have exhibited gross anti-congress activities and acts that may bring the Congress to public ridicule.
“OPC over the years has come out of various negative perceptions and the congress has through its activities which include cultural promotions and humanitarian services, as well as complementing the efforts of security agencies especially in South West.”
He also talked about the reach of the group saying it is recognized in as much as 63 countries in the world.
Following this, the group decided to replace the former coordinators who were found wanting in one way or the other.

He said: “The formation of OPC spread across 63 countries over the world, won’t allow such ill mannered people to be in leadership positions, thereby breeding anti societal elements.
“Subsequently they have been replaced with Oguntunde Rotimi Olumo from Oyo and Pius Ogunsanya from Ondo who are to act as state coordinators and take charge of the state secretariats while competent hands will soon be appointed for other states.”
