What about those who died in celebrity crash?
A woman is pleading that her family members who died in the crash in which Generations star Rapulana Seiphemo was injured be afforded equal attention.
|||Johannesburg - While the family and fans of Rapulana Seiphemo are praying for his speedy recovery, Nelia Germishuys is pleading that her family members who perished in the accident be afforded equal attention.
Germishuys’s cousin, Jerry Coertze, and her brother-in-law Donevan van Zyl, died in the collision on the N14 near Diepsloot on Sunday that left the Generations: The Legacy actor in a critical condition.
Coertze, who died on Tuesday in hospital, was the third to die in the accident. Two other people died instantly in the crash.
“I want the world to remember my cousin died in the Rapulana accident please, his life matters too,” Germishuys said on Thursday in an email sent to The Star.
“I have read so many articles and comments and no one cares about or mentions the names of the people that died in this horrific accident, they only care about their celebrity and his recovery. What about the other three people that died? All souls matter.”
She alleged the Audi A4 the Generations actor was travelling in was speeding. “We are angry, Jerry died because another person was speeding and overtaking in the rain, causing a head-on collision.
“There has been unconfirmed reports of alcohol in the media too. We have to wait for police to finish their investigation but a witness said Rapulana’s white Audi overtook another vehicle at around 200km/h. It was also mentioned anonymously that impact was at 180km/h.”
Germishuys also sent The Star pictures of a wrecked white Toyota Corolla believed to have collided with Seiphemo’s Audi. Coertze, who was 28, succumbed to his injuries in hospital on Tuesday, according to Germishuys.
Coertze was travelling with Van Zyl, who was the driver. He was coming from fetching Coertze from a Pretoria hospital and they were on their way back to Krugersdorp.
The third passenger in the Corolla, Van Zyl’s brother, Jody, survived the accident.
Germishuys said Van Zyl’s 3-year-old son Riaan had been asking where his father is. “His grandmother told him that daddy went to heaven and that he is helping the angels to build a house for us.”
Germishuys said Coertze’s family did not have funeral cover and appealed to the public to help them with funeral costs.
“They have been asking family members for donations in order to lay both sons to rest. They are struggling financially.”
Seiphemo’s family spokesman Mduduzi Sikhakhane could not be reached for comment.
