According to the New Telegraph of November 12, 2015, it was stated in there that scientific research links belly fat with premature death. This is due to the fact that a person with much fat deposit in his abdominal region will struggle to do so many things he would have done with little or no hiccups if he has a normal body mass index (BMI).
Belly fat is also called visceral fat or pot belly or protruding tummy. This is the fat that builds up around the viscera-internal organs like the stomach and intestines of an individual. Visceral fat is considered to be the most harmful form of fat in the body.
An individual with visceral fat would have much low density lipoprotein (LDL) in his body. Lipoproteins are made up of a combination of fats and proteins. LDL is a type of lipoprotein of blood plasma that is composed of moderate proportion of protein with little triglyceride and a high cholesterol that is associated with increased risk of developing atherosclerosis.

A healthy individual on the other hand has high density lipoprotein (HDL). HDL is a lipoprotein of blood plasma that is made up of a high proportion of protein with little triglyceride and cholesterol and is correlated with reduced risk of having atherosclerosis.
It should be noted that the accumulation of cholesterol is the one of the major causes of coming up with pot belly.
In the words of Dr Paul Poirer of the Institute of Cardiology at Laval University at Quebec, Canada, he simply talked about protruding tummy saying, “Belly fat is bad fat.”
Regardless of a person’s age or overall weight, having a large amount of belly fat increases the risk of diseases like cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, colorectal cancer and sleep apnea.
