Moruleng - The mayor of Moses Kotane local municipality in the North West on Friday called on residents not to damage a newly constructed R7.7 million road during service delivery protests.
“We are today [Friday] handing over the 1.8km paved internal road. Should there be any dissatisfaction of communities about any matter, let it not be on this road. Take care of this road, engage tribal authority and municipality to resolve any issues that you may have. It is not my wish that people of Lerome would burn the tyres on this road,” Fetsang Mokati said at the official opening of the road at Lerome South in Moruleng, outside Rustenburg. “It is your road. Have ownership to protect and preserve it as government. If you protect it, it will give us chance to go to other villages of Moses Kotane local municipality for service delivery provision.” The R7.7 million project started in April last year.
Twenty five people were employed during the construction of the road.
The municipality has allocated R72.3 million for construction of internal roads and stormwater projects for various villages as one of the key priorities of this financial year.
