The James Beard Foundation recently announced the semifinalists for its restaurant and chef awards, the winners of which will be announced on May 2.

One of the most prestigious awards is the "Best New Restaurant" category, which is given to restaurants that opened in the calendar year before and are able to display excellence in food, beverage, and service, and to "make a significant impact in years to come."

With more than 20,000 entries this year, the 25 restaurants selected so far are truly some of the country's best.
