According to a post published on Euphemia Udanoh on February 18, Enwezor, who is the chairman of the house committee on judiciary and legal matters, said the leadership of IPOB has the legal rights to sue the Federal Government for murder and claim damages.
The lawmaker, who condemned the killings, said it was unlawful and undemocratic for security agencies to shoot peaceful protesters demanding for sovereignty as it was inscribed in the constitution and part of democracy.
Enwezor who spoke in his private law firm in Onitsha, stressed that security operatives are not allowed to kill people except there is a court order to that effect. He also noted that there is no law that prescribed that someone must secure permission before embarking on peaceful protest, instead security agencies are authorised by law to arrest protesters who break the law in the course of their demonstration.
Supporting the lawmaker’s submission, chief Michael Ozua Okoye, the traditional prime minister of Igboland (Onowu Igbo), who spoke with journalists in Onitsha, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to release the director of radio Biafra and leader of the IPOB group, Nnamdi Kanu on bail in accordance with previous court rulings.
The traditional ruler described Kanu as a true son of Ndigbo, hence should be granted freedom to go and take care of his family. He said IPOB leader did not kill anyone or wage war against the government, but acted in accordance with what he read in books about independence.
“God will bring biafra by Himself, So, Kanu should endure what we and Ojukwu endured before, during and after the civil war,” Okoye said.

Justice John Tsoho in his ruling on February 19 denied the applicant’s request to allow accredited journalists cover his (Kanu) trial, based on the provision of Section 232 subsection (4) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) specifies offences for which criminal acts should be secluded.
