MFM football club of Lagos have bounced back from their 3 – 0 loss to Shooting Stars of Ibadan on Sunday February 28. The team defeated Akure giants Sunshine Stars 2 – 1 at the Agege Stadium today March 2, to continue to spring surprises in the Nigerian Premier League.
The entertaining encounter saw quality saves from both keepers as the both teams fought so hard from the first blast of the whistle.

After losing quite a number of glorious chances, Newman Musa capitalized on a loose ball and slotted home a low drive to put the home side ahead in the 26th minute, with the crowd going wild.
Just like a wounded lion, Sunshine Stars turned around the game firing from all cylinders and their efforts paid off when Kadir Samad equalized with a cool finish five minutes before half time, as both teams went into the break with the score level.

The second half was full of excitement and drama with MFM’s Newman Musa and Sunshine’s Afolabi dazzling the opposition respectively and just at the closing stages, substitute Odey Stephen swooped on a pass inside the area to get the winner four minutes from time with the game ending 2 -1 in favour of MFM FC.
Sunshine Stars were later reduced to 10 men after Abbey was sent off for a rough tackle in the 90th minute.

In his reaction, coach of Sunshine Stars Samson Unuanel lamented the loss saying he never expected his team to lose the game.
He said: “As a coach I planned to come here for at least a point. As God would have it, we conceded that goal very late and it was very painful.
“If you knew what was going through my mind at that moment, you would pity me. We’ve worked very hard for the past five weeks or thereabout, but this is football where anything can happen.
“So far so good, I give credit to my players because this game has a slogan; both teams were condemned to win because of our last games which we both lost. We worked hard, but they worked harder.

Uanuel however disclosed that most of his players left unexpectedly, saying as a team leader, he has taken responsibility for the loss.
“We will build this team, many of my players left the very day the league was about to start which distorted our plans. I take responsibility for what happened and my players played well today. I will stand by them,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, coach of MFM FC has continued to shower prayers on his players saying they did what they needed to, in order to defeat the much experienced Sunshine Stars of Akure.

“Last season, they were the most consistent team and they played well. We were determined and at half time, we told the players how much we needed the victory and they did the needful in the second half, we are so excited.
