The next Democratic presidential debate is tonight at 9 pm Eastern. It will take place in Miami, Florida, and be aired on CNN and Univision. An online live stream will be available at CNN.com.
This is the final scheduled debate this month between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, and it comes the day after a shocking Sanders upset victory in Michigan, where he had been trailing by more than 20 points in the polls.
Overall, Clinton remains in a commanding position. She has about 215 more pledged delegates than Sanders does, according to Vox's delegate tracker. Furthermore, she has an even bigger lead among superdelegates, party insiders who can vote for whomever they want.
Since Democrats allot all of their pledged delegates proportionally based on the results of primaries and caucuses, it will likely prove difficult for Sanders to close this gap. But Sanders's Michigan win shows some surprises might still lie ahead in this race. He'll need several more like it — and several far bigger victories — to catch up to Clinton at this point.
Given that this debate will be co-hosted by Univision, expect immigration and other issues important to Latino voters to get a lot of attention. Another topic that will certainly come up quite a bit, given Donald Trump's recent victories, is which one of the two Democratic candidates is more likely to defeat the billionaire. Expect both Clinton and Sanders to try to win over liberal voters and Latinos worried about the rise of Trump, in the final days before several large states — Florida, Illinois, Ohio, North Carolina, and Missouri — go to the polls on March 15.
