Vikings will sign former Titans safety Michael Griffin

0

The Vikings have addressed another one of their needs, agreeing to terms with safety Michael Griffin, a source confirmed to our Mark Craig.

Griffin, 31, was a first-round pick of the Titans in 2007.  He has played nine seasons with the Titans, starting 133 of his 141 career games.

He was a second-team All-Pro in 2010 and was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2008 and 2010, though that was a long time ago in NFL years.

Griffin has made 763 career tackles while recording 25 interceptions and 11 forced fumbles. He picked off three passes for the Titans in 2015.

The Vikings had been in contact with former Bengals free safety Reggie Nelson but ultimately decided to sign Griffin, who has a history with defensive backs coach Jerry Gray. Gray was the defensive coordinator in Tennessee from 2011 to 2013 before joining the Vikings staff.

The addition of Griffin could mean that Andrew Sendejo, who was re-signed to a four-year deal on Saturday, shifts to a backup role.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network first reported the Griffin news.
