The Hausa tribe is one out of the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria. The largest population of Hausa are concentrated in Nigeria and Niger, though Hausa-speaking communities are scattered throughout West Africa.
There are common misconceptions people have about Hausa people, mainly because of what they have heard from other people. But before you jump to conclusion and spread misconceived information, you need to get your facts right.
Naij.com has compiled this list of some misconceptions people have about Hausa people.
1. Everyone in the north is a Hausa person. They all speak Hausa as a lingua franca in order to communicate amongst themselves but not everyone in the north is Hausa. There are a lot of Ethnic groups in the north.
2. All Hausas are Muslims. Some Hausa people are Christians. Out of the 19 Northern states, at least 5 have a majority Christian population.
3. They are heartless. Some say they can slaughter people the way they slaughter cows.

4. They are very violent. Some say they go around with dagger in their pockets.
5. They can’t speak good English. There’s this common misconception that Hausa people are not well learned and have difficulty speaking English but there are professors from the north.
6. They all marry at a very young age. Their girls are married off to older men as early as 12 years of age.
7. They are not money conscious. They don’t like money like the Igbo man who is believed to love money than anything.
8. Hausa people are not smart. A lot of people say they behave like their cows. Being smart is not dependent on your ethnicity.

9. They can never cheat anybody. A Hausa person is believed to be very sincere when it comes to daily business dealings.
10. Hausa men have extra-ordinary bedroom prowess. Some say they have large sized manhood popular Hausa herb they take, Burantashi ((literally “penis get up”).
Finally, every tribe has it’s own good and bad sides , for Nigeria to move forward all we need to tolerate each other.
