A rare case of twin sisters born with different fathers has been reported in Vietnam. A bizarre discovery came to light after the girls’ mother applied for a child support and her husband’s relatives urged him to get their daughters DNA tested.

The paternity test revealed that the two-year-olds, who looked like total strangers, are actually children from different fathers. And the woman had nothing to do but to admit she had sex with two men, including her husband in the same ovulation period.

Commenting on the extremely rary occurrence Le Dinh Luong, president of the Genetic Association of Vietnam, said: “Our Centre for Genetic Analysis and Technology lab has tested and found a pair of bi-paternal twins. This is rare not only for Vietnam, but for the world.”

Despite the twins were born on the same day, they have strikingly different appearances — one of them has thick, wavy hair while the other has thin and straight locks. And only one of them was biologically related to the father.

Bi-paternal twins phenomenon can happen if two eggs from the same mother are fertilised by sperm from two different men during separate acts of sexual intercourse within the same ovulation period.
