There is serious panic in Nigeria’s apex financial institution, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) over a recent discovery of fraudulent transactions.
According to Nigerian Bulletin, the apex bank in Nigeria on Thursday, March 9, announced its suspension of some key personnel involved in a fraudulent transaction which the management recently uncovered.

A statement titled ‘CBN uncovers and aborted fraud’ and signed by Isaac Okoroafor, the acting director, Corporate Communications Department, reads: “A highly sophisticated plot to defraud the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) by some criminally minded elements has by uncovered and aborted by the Bank.
“Although preliminary investigations so far have not revealed any accomplices within the CBN, Management has decided to place all key personal involved in the transaction on suspension. This is to ensure a full and unfettered investigation.
“The incident has been reported to relevant authorities. The CBN wishes to assure the public that the security of the Bank remains intact.”
This latest development is coming on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari’s removal of about 184 top budget officials from budget duties and redeployed them to establishments that have little or nothing to do with budget over their roles in padding the 2016 budget.
The president’s move is in pursuance to his earlier stance to deal decisively with all those involved in the padding of the 2016 national budget which caused much embarrassment to the federal government.
Speaking about the shakeup, a top official in the budget office confirmed to Vanguard that 22 top officers from the budget office of the federation were affected in the mass deployment.
