PE doctor held for sex charges released
A Port Elizabeth doctor arrested on charges of sexual assault against a patient has been released.
|||Port Elizabeth – A Port Elizabeth doctor who was arrested on charges of sexual assault was released on Thursday due to insufficient evidence, the man’s defence attorney and police confirmed on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said the matter against the 62-year-old doctor was not “enrolled” at court due to a lack of evidence.
Naidu said police needed to conduct further investigations and once that had been concluded, the docket would be sent back to court.
The medical practitioner was arrested at his practice in Rowallan Park on Thursday.
Police said a 38-year-old woman laid a complaint in July last year after she felt the doctor had touched her inappropriately.
The doctor’s lawyer, Danie Gouws, told the African News Agency that his client was released on Thursday after consultation with a senior State prosecutor.
Gouws said further consultations would take place next week.
