– Nollywood star Stephanie Okereke-Linus celebrates award for Best African Movie at 2016 AMVCAs

– Gathers her fans together for special event even as she seized the moment to address the issue of girl-child abuse

In celebration of her big win at the 2016 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Award which held on Saturday, March 5 in Lagos, Nollywood star Stephanie Okereke-Linus has hosted fans to an evening of fun and entertainment.

The celebration which also served as a premier of her award-winning film Dry took place on Thursday, March 10 as part of the new Nolly Thursdays initiative which looks to further promote the movie industry.

A few weeks back, the actress signed a distribution deal for the marketing of the movie in the United States of America.

The movie, produced by her, stars the actress playing the role of Zara – a medical doctor.  Other star presences in the film include Darwin Shaw, Liz Benson and William McNamara among others.

It is a movie based on the struggles of under-aged girls living as child brides in West Africa.

It mirrors the issues of child marriage and the attendant challenges of this including the dreaded Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF), a condition common with women as a result of childbirth.

Following her rants on microblogging site Twitter a few days ago, Stephanie went on to hammer on the girl-child plights in Nigeria at the event. She made special reference to the recent story of Ese Oruru who was abducted and later released following the furore in the wake of everything.

Stephanie said: “I’ve been keenly following Ese Oruru’s story on the news for some time now and the turn of events is really shocking, I must say. Different versions of her story keep creeping up in the news. It’s hard to know what to believe anymore.

“What I find most appalling is some people are blaming her for her predicament. Blaming a 14 year-old girl! For what! She is still a child. It’s even more sad that there are still lots of girls taken from their parents care across the country and sexually abused everyday.”

The 33-year-old actress who is married to Linus Idahosa also doubles as a movie producer and model.

She was a runner up at the 2002 edition of the prestigious Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria pageant.

Her movie Dry won the award for Best Overall African Movie at the 2016 AMVCAs on Saturday, March 5.
