RANKED: The 30 most creative women in advertising — 2016 (PUB, OMC, WPPGY, IPG)

.

Advertising is still an industry dominated by men. Women hold just 30% of leadership positions in the ad world, according to data from Institute of Practitioners in Advertising.

Initiatives like The 3% Conference and SheSays have helped to highlight and perhaps partially remedy the problem, but there's still no doubt that women are under-represented.

That's why each year we put out a call for entries for our annual rankings for the most creative women in Adland.

From these nominations, paired with our own research, we selected 30 of the most impressive women in advertising.

Factors we considered included recognition within the industry, seniority in their respective agencies, size of the shop, and standout creative work that's garnered attention outside of the advertising world.

Our list is by no means complete. But it does feature some of the fiercest talents in the business. Congratulations to everyone who made the list.

30. Christine Call, creative director at Omelet LA

Omelet

Christine Call created Pokemon's Super Bowl spot this year. Her script celebrated Pokemon's 20th anniversary and was ad agency Omelet's debut at the Super Bowl. It has since become Pokemon's most viewed video, with 24.3 million views so far.

Also at Omelet, Call has worked with many big name brands including Moët & Chandon, Netflix, and HBO.

Before joining Omelet, Call worked as a copywriter at Deutsch, TBWA\Chiat\Day, and BBDO.

The Pokemon Super Bowl ad has amassed more than 24 million views:

29. Kat Gordon, creative director at Maternal Instinct and founder of The 3% Conference

3 percent conference

Kat Gordon's work at The 3% Conference has helped to make an impact on the number of women in creative-leadership roles. Within the organization's first year of existence, the percentage of female creative directors in the Communication Arts Advertising Annual went up from 3% to 11.5%.

This year Gordon brought back the Super Bowl Tweetup, which called on women in the advertising industry to tweet their reactions to ads under the hashtag #3percentsb. The hashtag gathered more than 9 million impressions.

Gordon founded her own ad agency, Maternal Instinct, which works to bring clients to the "mom market." Before Maternal Instinct, Gordon worked as a copywriter for many years.
