Women against rape: ‘Every rapist has a psychological problem’
– The Lagos state commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, said that rape is an abominable act
– She urged victims to lodge their complaint
The Lagos state commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Lola Akande, has said that rape is an abominable act, indecent and should be condemned in its totally.
She disclosed this on Thursday, March 10, while receiving various celebrities and Nigerians at Alausa, Ikeja who staged a walk against rape, noting that as a woman how would she tell someone that people get raped in the house they are living in.
On if there is a law for rapists, she said: “Yes, we have a law on it,though it is not for life. The lawmakers are currently working on it where anyone found guilty of rape is going to jail for life imprisonment”.
The commissioner said: If you look at homes, schools rape is everywhere; it is not the right thing at all. I don’t know how someone would look at his 2 year old daughter and want to rape her. I believe it is a psychological problem and people who are leveled with rape cases should be examined.”
She urged all victims to lodge a complaint. “You know our society does not think to allow expressions such as the walk against rape because of the stigmatization, but I know that with time we will learn to come out.
Ten years ago people don’t come out to talk about rape unlike now. We should be emancipated, come out of our shell and speak out with time the victims would not be stigmatized.

So in its totally rape should be condemned. Rape cases should not be tolerated.
She congratulated the group again for coming and standing against rape.
For the Mirabel centre, she said the ministry is thinking about having it in every local government where people can get treated and counseled easily.

In support of the ongoing fight against rape in the country, celebrities such as; Wunmi Obe, Susan Peters, Dayo Amusa, Tayo Odueke, Niniola, Koker, and Pryse joined several concerned Nigerians from different sector of the society at the walk against rape campaign in Lagos on Thursday, March 10.
The sixth edition of the much awaited walk against rape campaign was aimed at creating awareness and lending a voice to sexually abused persons (particularly women and children) in the society.
