Queen’s college teacher detained on suspicion of sexual abuse of students

– UNICEF, Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Sports, etc are to investigate the case
Mr Olaseni Oshifala, the biology teacher from of Queen’s college in Yaba, Lagos state, has been reportedly detained by the police. The alleged sexual abuse incident came to light after a parent of a JSS2 student accused Mr Oshifala of molesting her daughter and the school covering his crime.
According to Sahara Reporters, the teacher voluntarily visited the police station on Monday but was not allowed to go home. Earlier, Mr Oshifala had visited the police to report “false accusations” brought against him by people jealous of his success.
Shortly after the accusations were made public the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN), planned to stage a protest in support of their colleague but called it off on Wednesday to avoid any provocations from unwanted elements.

Comrade Abiodun Oladejo, Chairman of the Queen’s College chapter of the union, said: “We called it off to avoid violence and misunderstanding of our position on the issue.”
The commissioner of police, Fatai Owoseni, as well as representatives of UNICEF and Lagos state government visited the college yesterday to investigate the allegations. The members of the panel set up by Prof Anthony Onwuka, the minister of state for education, are still expected at college.
“We are expecting the ministerial panelists. So many organizations are coming around to investigate the case – UNICEF, Lagos State House of Assembly, Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Sports, etc. About 10 members of staff met with the Commissioner of Police today,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Queen’s College Old Girls’ Association (QCOGA) called for a criminal investigation of the case.

Queen’s college is widely considered to be one of the top schools on the African continent. It has returned the best results nationwide in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) seven times since 1985.
Its alumni include doctors, engineers, and lawyers who live and work all over the world including the United States, UK, Germany, Canada, France and other countries. The school motto is “Pass On The Torch.”
