The federal government has organised a town hall meeting scheduled to be held in Abuja on March 24, where members of Agatu and Fulani communities will talk in an attempt to resolve the crisis.
In a related development, Solomon Arase, the inspector general of police, has deployed more police officers to the trouble-ridden community to forestall any possible re-occurrence of the bloodbath.
This was contained in a statement issued by the force public relations officer, Olabisi Kolawole, as reported by Premium Times.
According to the statement, Arase assured of the government’s readiness to arrest the culprits involved in the attack.
The statement said Arase visited the area and immediately deployed two additional units of mobile police, while vehicles were also sent to aid operations in the area.
The IG, who described the killing of two police officers who were on official assignment in the area as brutal, warned that anybody found culpable in the gruesome murders would be made to face the full wrath of the law.
Arase further disclosed that the force was partnering with relevant parties to curb the spread of the crisis as well as to ensure that such incidents would not reoccur in Agatu or anywhere else across the country.
He sympathised with families of the deceased as well as the entire Agatu community, and pleaded with them to assist the police in apprehending the perpetrators and sponsors of the heinous crime.

It was reported that hundreds of people were killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Agatu community during a clash that broke out over grazing land on March 5.
The ravaging herdsmen destroyed several properties in the community, and rendered many residents homeless. Some residents who spoke at a town hall meeting in Abuja said the herdsmen had earlier said that the grasses in the community are sweet and nutritious for their cattle, hence the reason for the attack.
The former Senate president Senator David Mark in his reaction to the sad incident, urged the people of Benue state to refrain from any form of reprisal attack on herdsmen in any part of Benue south district to prevent an escalation of the crisis between Fulani herdsmen and Agatu farmers.
