15 songs you were sure to hear at ‘every’ Nigerian birthday party in the 90s
The nineties were the greatest decade ever and if you don’t think so, you were not born yet or were probably living under a stone.
In Nigeria, one of the best memories for a late eighties/early nineties child was the ‘aunty give me cake’ birthday parties. You wore your best ‘tie-me-backs’ and patent leather ‘court shoes’ or button-downs with a boy tie and cute loafers. Then when it came time for dancing, we ‘scattered’ the dance floor with the running man, break dance, the alf, the cabbage patch (garbage), the Milli Vanillli, the Roger Rabbit or just random ‘shaking body’ dance move. And no matter where you lived in the country, the some songs below were played by almost every local DJ, thanks to inspiration from the DJs on NTA and Radio Nigeria.
