Tension: Gunmen shoot Rivers state official
– The body of a man was found riddled with bullets in Rivers state
– The victim was an official who was popular in the community
– It is not clear if the killing is politically motivated
The spate of political killing in Rivers seems to have subsided but has not doused the tension in the state following the fatal shooting of one person in the state.
A lot of violence was recorded before and during the state’s rerun election leading to the death of a number of persons. The latest killing occurred in Buguma which is the headquarters of Asari Toru local government on Thursday, March 31 although it is not know if this is politically motivated.

Vanguard reports that Mr Sobomabo Jackrich who is the caretaker committee chairman of the local government confirmed the tragic incident. He gave the name of the victim as Godknows aka Babadiba.
Jackrich described the deceased as a popular person who was appointed as the special adviser on business development.
He said: “Anybody who resides in Buguma knew this man. He was selfless, popular, a complete gentleman by every standard, I dont know why anybody will do this to him. We appointed him Senior Special Adviser on Business Development to help strengthen economic life in the local government.
“This is a ploy by some persons to destroy the peace in our local government.”
The chairman appealed to the police to uncover those behind the violent attack.
It was gathered that Godknows has been threatened earlier in the week by some people but he had dismissed the threats.

A resident in the community who spoke on the condition of anonymity also confirmed the incident. He said the news of the death of the business was unbelievable as nobody could comprehend while he was killed.
