Lawal disclosed that contractors working for the government recently committed to the injection of N350 billion into the economy to enable contractors discharge their obligations in the delivery of infrastructure.

According to him, the move imposes greater responsibilities to procuring entities, contractors and service providers.

Lawal who was represented at the event by Ms Felice Nwokedi, permanent secretary, special duties said: ”The current administration has promised change to Nigerians, without setting limits to where its policies and programmes will make an impact. But we know that when the dividends of democracy flourish, it benefits all.’
The SGF commended the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) for its foresight in factoring states into its implementation of the Public Procurement Act 2007.
”It is clear that the 25 states that have already enacted their laws to set up of their procurement regulatory agencies, evidently from their perception that the Act is working at the federal level,” he said.
Lawal stated that the federal government attaches a great deal of importance to procurement. as according to him: ”It is vehicle through which Government must deliver on the infrastructure promised to the people. So it cannot afford to ignore what is going on in the procurement system.’‘
After the address, Nwokedi declared the conference open on behalf of the SGF.

Meanwhile, there was a goodwill message from the Africa Development Bank (AFDB) delivered by Mr Ando Mensah. In his short speech, Mensah praised the BPP for its good work and hope that the achievements of the agency will be replicated in the 36 states of the federation.
