A former member of the House of Representative, Solomon Agidani has called on the Nigerian government to establish a permanent military formation within Agatu local government area.
Agidani, who represented the Apa/ Agatu federal constituency while speaking with NAIJ.com said a military formation will help curb the invasion of herdsmen in Agatu.
“I am from Apa – the host community housing the displaced people from Agatu – but I represented Apa/ Agatu federal constituency,” Agidani said.
He said: “There is something else that I keep saying, right from the seventh assembly, the contribution I made to the seventh assembly was that there should be a permanent military base in Agatu, along that riverine area.”

Agidani said a permanent military base if established at Okokolo in Agatu will prevent the marauding herdsmen from invading the communities in Agatu.
“This is because that is the axis where these herders come into Agatu from and cause all sorts of destruction,” he added.
“If that military base have been established since that time, this recent killings that happened in Agatu would not have happened, the military base when established would stop the invasion around Nasarawa, so you see, the military formation will take care of both Benue and Nasarawa states,” he said.

Agidani also called on the federal government to immediately assist in the reconstruction of property lost during the crisis between farmers and Fulani herdsmen in Agatu.
“The damage is a very colossal one and the only thing we can say now is that the federal government should please urgently come to our aid in the area of reconstruction,” he said.
On March 5, a clash between land owners and some group of herdsmen led to the killing of many people and destruction of property in various communities in Agatu local government area of Benue state.
