Sheriff pleads not guilty to ordering inmates' beatings

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - A Louisiana sheriff has pleaded not guilty to federal charges that he ordered inmates to be beaten in retaliation for a lewd comment and complaints about jail conditions.
