Gary Neville's first step into management came to an undignified end on Wednesday as Valencia sacked the former England and Manchester United defender after just 119 days with the Spanish club.

The ex-United captain and Sky Sports pundit was appointed at the Mestalla amid much fanfare on December 2, but did not last long in La Liga with a record of 10 wins in 28 games.

Neville faced mounting fan unrest after defeat to local rivals Levante in his final game before the international break, with supporters calling on him to resign as the Spanish giants find themselves just six points above the La Liga relegation zone with eight games remaining.

The former Old Trafford captain won eight Premier League titles and two Champions League medals at United, but has failed to translate that success to the dugout this season.

With Neville's ignominious Valencia exit in mind, Standard Sport takes a look at five talented players who stumbled when it came to giving orders from the touchline.
