Ahmed cautioned that failure of the authorities to deal conclusively with supposed excesses of the Shi’ites may be too deadly for Nigeria.
He also disclosed that the late leader of Boko Haram, Mohammed Yusuf had some relationship with the Shi’ites prior to forming his own group.
Sharia council leader further said that both Mohammed and the Shi’ite leader, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky had similar attitudes in holding onto their respective doctrines which are reportedly contrary to Islamic values.
According to him, the Shi’ites had recently commenced adopting Boko Haram strategy of intimidation and removal of Ulamas who were opposed to their doctrines. Ahmed added that many have renounced from testifying before the inquiry for fear of the unknown.
He claimed that the initial government handling of Boko Haram with negligence, adding that small fires become huge blazes if not tackled in an effective and timely manner. He advised the authorities to learn from its experience with Boko Haram by dealing decisively with the Shi’ites.
“Failure to act will spell catastrophe for Nigeria,” Ahmed stated.

Many people were feared dead after a bloody clash between armed soldiers and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria in Zaria, Kaduna state in December last year.
Sheikh Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, the leader of the sect, was arrested after his followers clashed with Nigerian soldiers.
The military said that Zakzaky’s followers had tried to kill the Nigerian chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, and had barricaded roads being used by Buratai’s motorcade. However, the IMN denied such accusations.
