Government inaugurates National Honours Awards committee (photo)
– The federal government has inaugurated the committee on National Honours Awards
– The committee is chaired by the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore
The newly-reconstituted committee on National Honours Award to honour Nigerians who have rendered service to the benefit of the nation has been inaugurated in Abuja.

Chairman of the committee is former chief justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore, Mr. Gabriel Loto will serve as secretary.

Other members of the board are retired justices Umaru Kalgo and Isaac Aluyi, Mrs. Bola Ogun-rinde, Nnema Ndukwu, Ambassador Usman Galtimari, Chief Bassey Edem, Mr. Gabriel Afu, Ambassador Nonye Udo, Mr. M. F. Abikoye and Mr. Y. M. Bichi; Mrs. Rasheedat Okoduwa and Mr. James Ibidapo.
During the Wednesday ceremony, Mr. Babachir Lawal, secretary to the government of the federation, reminded that the national award serves for the recognition and honouring outstanding citizens and friends of Nigeria, who contributed to the country’s development.

It also motivates the wider citizenry to strive for greater heights and work hard towards promoting the nation’s intellectual, creative and societal value systems.
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engineer Babachir David Lawal, has also promised that corrupt recipients of the national honours will be stripped of the awards if found implicated in any dishonourable actions.
