Two female suicide bombers launch deadly attack at refugee camp

Two female suicide bombers killed at least eight people and left many wounded at a camp for people displaced by Boko Haram insurgency.

Twin-suicide bombings reportedly occured around 8am on Wednesday, April 20, in the remote town of Banki, which borders Cameroon.

In an interview with Reuters Khalid Aji, a member of a grassroots community security group based in Konduga, said:

“Two female suicide bombers who were initially thought to be IDPs blew themselves up in the camp. The first one occurred at about 8 a.m. and the second followed few minutes later. Eight people died and 12 were wounded.”

Mr Aji got the details of the attack from the people members of his organisation evacuated from the affected area. The bombing was also confirmed by a senior Nigeria customs service official, who raised tje number of wounded to 15.

Militant Islamist group Boko Haram has not claimed responsibility for the attack so far.

Banki, which is around 120 km from the state capital Maiduguri, was seized by Boko Haram in 2013 but Nigerian troops in cooperation with soldiers from neighbouring countries .
