There has been a revelation on Thursday, April 21 that Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, was not investigated by the Code of Conduct Bureau(CCB) after filing charges against him.
This was disclosed by Michael Wetkas, a detective from the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during his cross examination at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Paul Usoro, one of the counsels to Saraki asked Wetkas if the defendant was investigated on the American express issue but Michael said he was interrogated by members of a larger team.
“At the time the larger team of the commission investigated the defendant, they interrogated him but when they merged with CCB, they did not,” said Wetkas.

Wetkas also said there were some companies Saraki had interest in locally and internationally.
However, Usoro asked Wetkas to identify team members who took part in the investigation in which in which Usman Imam, Musa Sundaywere mentioned.
When Usoro asked Wetkas about transactions on funds transfer, Wetkas said that there are specified people who can talk about those bank related issues.
“Every transaction in the bank is specialised and that is why the head of the head of international funds transfer for Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB) is listed as a witness in this case, Mr Amazu Nwachukwu.
“In the course of the investigation, what is clear to us is what we used. “There are some more in the statement of account which was a clear narration of the transfer between American express.
Wetkas added that the investigation is based more on the statement of accounts and there was nothing like American express service card in the document.
However, this is not the only issue that Saraki was not investigated on.
Agabi asked Wetkas if he interviewed any of the petitioners who called on the EFCC to investigate the state universal…board and the witness said it was true but his team didn’t handle that investigation.
Recall that on Tuesday, April 19, Wetkas denied knowledge of the content of a petition marked as exhibit 11 against Bukola Saraki, the Senate president.

The petition in question was filed by Kwara Freedom Network alleging corruption against Saraki.
Meanwhile, 51 lawyers were present at the court to represent Saraki. There were also some lawmakers in the court room who came to support Saraki.
Some of them include Dino Melaye, the Senate committee chairman on FCT, Sam Anyawu, Senate committee chairman on ethics and privileges among others.
Saraki has been charged to court since September22, 2015 over 13 counts of corruption bordered on corruption
