Two senior army officers are to face trial at a special court set up by the army on Thursday, May 5, over undisclosed offences.
Vanguard reports that the judge advocate, Col. Ibrahim Musa who administered the oath on the president of the special court martial, Air Vice-Marshal James Gbum and three others, said that the purpose of the special court was to try Major General Ibrahim Sanni and Major General Patrick Falola.

Reading the conveying order for the court from the chief of army staff, Musa said “by the power conferred on me by Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, I hereby conveyed this speech to every one of you in this Special Court. “This court is saddled with the responsibility of trying the two officers’’.
The president of the special court martial, Air Vice-Marshal James Gbum, promised to uphold the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Armed Forces Act, Service Evidence Act, Military Law and Rule of Procedure during the courde of the trial.
Gbum also promised that the court would ensure speedy dispensation of justice, noting that “justice delayed is justice denied’’.
At the time of filling this report, the officers’ offences were however, not stated but the trial is expected to commence on Monday, May 9.
Meanwhile in another development, Nigerian troops have again, averted a major loss in its fight against terrorism in Nigeria’s northeast.

The troops who have recorded massive back-to-back successes against Boko Haram terrorists, cattle rustlers and armed bandits, were on top of their game against the bandits who attacked them in Zamfara state.
A press statement issued by Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, the army spokesperson stated that troops of 223 Battalion, 1 Brigade Nigerian Army who were on patrol laid an ambush for the suspected cattle rustlers and armed bandits who came in large numbers on motorcycles fully armed.
The troops killed 18 and wounded several armed bandits. They also recovered 11 AK-47 rifles, 1 G3 rifles, 1 locally made pistol, 11 magazines of AK-47 rifle, a magazine of G3 rifle and 161 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunitions according to the army spokesperson.
