Skeleton found off Llandudno hiking trail
Wilderness Search and Rescue team took four hours to locate a skeleton, discovered by hikers, near Llandudno Ravine.
|||Cape Town - The remains of a person dressed in denim clothes were airlifted from the Llandudno Ravine on Wednesday by Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR).
The skeleton was discovered by a group of hikers on Tuesday, WSAR spokesperson Johan Marais said on Wednesday.
The police’s forensic pathology service and a member of WSAR, with the assistance of one of the hikers to show them the way, flew to the site on Wednesday, Marais said.
It took them four hours to locate and airlift the remains from the mountain.
Marais said it appeared to be a rather small person, dressed in mostly denim clothing, and who had most probably fallen 80 metres from the mountain.
The body was off a fairly well used hiking path near Llandudno Ravine.
“Our operative assisted the police to package the body, and it was airlifted off the mountain,” he said.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said an inquest docket had been opened for investigation and there has been no arrests.
