Durban - KwaZulu-Natal police have chalked up a massive success, arresting one of their “most wanted and dangerous” suspects, the alleged ringleader of the brazen and violent Tsunami Gang believed to be behind several police murders and cash-in-transit heists in the province.
According to police, officers from the Hawks, Crime Intelligence Durban K9 unit and the Special Task Force tracked the notoriously elusive man to KwaMashu on Tuesday night.
The police recovered an arms cache of three AK-47s, two pistols, three AK-47 magazines and more than 350 live rounds of ammunition in several hiding places.
The Tsunami Gang has been linked to the November murders of Gingindlovu-based Warrant Officer Jericho Mdletshe and, possibly also the Durban Flying Squad’s Warrant Officer Ashok Ramsakkan.
Provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, said, “We once again urge communities not to harbour criminals. The fact that he was armed to his teeth is an indication of how dangerous he is.”
