With over 9000 supporters JMM’s Rajmahal MP Vijay Hansda and nine MLAs (all from different locations in Jharkhand) were detained on Saturday when they were trying to enforce a day-long bandh to mark a protest against the recently implemented local resident policy in the state. The state government implemented local resident policy in April which says anyone living in Jharkhand (besides some other provisions) since 1985 is a local. The JMM led protesters claim the policy is tilted towards non-tribals and want the cut-off date to be 1932.
