When Nathan Myhrvold and Edward Jung, both of Microsoft lore, created the invention- and patent-centric company Intellectual Ventures in 2000, they burst onto the scene firing both lawyers, gunning for the competition ... or that's certainly the way it appeared to many in the tech and sciences world.
