– The Argentine embassy celebrates Malbec world day at the residence of the Ambassador in Abuja.
The Malbec day is a special day set aside to celebrate the Argentine made wines. During his speech, Ambassador of the embassy, Gustavo Ndzugala explained the factors that went into wine production in the Nation.
“With 25,000 vineyards and 950 wineries, Argentina is the 5th largest producer in the world, ahead of leading producers such as Chile and South Africa. Mendoza, a western province located along The Andes Mountain Range, accounts for 75% of our wine output and 85 % of our exports.
“Malbec is the main variety we produce and the star of our industry. It was introduced in Argentina in 1853, Malbec accounts for 35% of the total cultivated area, over 50% of our exports and 1/3 of our domestic sales, besides being one of the major producers, Argentina is the 10th exporter and we hold the 9th largest domestic market,” he told NAIJ.com.

However, during the wine tasting event, seven different wines, from economic to fine wines, grown with a combination of climate, fertile soils & altitude were presented – all of which are of Malbec varieties. “Finca Don Martino, RPB, Casa Bianchi, Luigi Bosca, and Bodega Furlotti.
In attendance were staff of the embassy, NAIJ.com, hotel entrepreneurs, restaurant and shopping mall representative including other traders who participated at the wine tasting event.
