Fayose suffers heavy blow as over 5000 PDP members defect to APC

– Scores of PDP members in Ekiti state have joined the APC

– Led by a party chieftain Chief Dele Okeya, the party alleged that the PDP in EKiti has now become a one-man show

– They also alleged that the party had been taken over by “criminals, crooks, rogues and ragamuffins”

At least 5000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti state have defected to the All Progressives Congress, The Nation reports.

It was gathered that the defectors were led by a party chieftain, Chief Dele Okeya, who claimed the party has now become a one-man show.

Received by Kemi Olaleye, the APC deputy chairman in Ekiti state, on behalf of the party’s chairman Chief Olajide Awe, Okeya also alleged that the party had been taken over by “criminals, crooks, rogues and ragamuffins”.

He said: “The PDP in Ekiti lacks internal democracy and has become a one-man show and sole proprietorship where the governor hijacks the functions of the deputy governor, speaker, secretary to the state government, chief of staff and party chairman.

“The disenchantment I had with PDP is that it had lost focus and direction. We built PDP from the scratch and by the grace of God we made it an election-winning platform, but the leadership lost direction.

“Rogues, criminals and ragamuffins have hijacked the party; there is no internal democracy and it is imposition galore. No sane person will stay when one man hijacks every aspect.

“In fact, they have willingly subverted the party constitution and abandoned its manifesto; that type of party cannot produce good governance.

“They are so selfish, self-centered and the internal conflict resolution mechanism has been abandoned. They no longer obey rules and anything goes on; it is a party of impunity and their impunity has driven Nigeria to where it is today.

“You can see the crowd that is joining the APC with me, we are over 5,000 and more are still coming. With me in APC now, PDP cannot win any election here again.”

Governor Fayose had been earlier been accused of causing confusion in the PDP ahead of the Southwest zonal congress of the party billed for Akure, Ondo state.

The accusation came from the national leadership of the party who spoke through its national secretary, Professor Wale Oladipo.
