Crisis: PDP lawmakers meet to decide party’s fate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senators and members of the House of Representatives will meet on Monday, May 16, to discuss the current crisis in the party which has threatened the upcoming national convention of the party, ThisDay reports.

In a statement jointly signed by Senator Godswill Akpabio the Senate minority leaderand his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Leo Ogor, disclosed that the joint meeting of the lawmakers would hold at the House of Representatives’ complex, Abuja.

The main purpose of the meeting would be to review of the state of the party against the backdrop of the forth-coming national convention of the party, adding that attendance is compulsory.

According to a source, the lawmakers might also deliberate on the recent increment in the price of fuel price and take a position that would reflect their collective stance on the issue of the fuel subsidy.

In a related development, the embattled national chairman of the party Ali Modu Sheriff, over statements credited to him by his personal aides and associates.

Professor Jerry Gana and some PDP elders had rejected Sheriff as the chairman of the party and vowed he will not return to the Wadata plaza. In his apology, Sheriff said as “a well cultured and astute politician, he would never make any comment that would ridicule the party.”
