Teen held after author’s murder
An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the murder of author Winnie Rust in Wellington.
|||Cape Town - A teenager Wellington police arrested in connection with the murder of author Winnie Rust is expected to appear in court on Monday.
Rust’s murder has left the Wellington community in shock.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana said investigations by Wellington detectives had led to the arrest of an18-year-old.
“The suspect was arrested and several items were found in his possession that linked him to the murder.
“He will appear on a charge of murder in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court on Monday,” said Rwexana.
Rust and her husband Manie are well known in the Wellington community.
Rust wrote Margie of the Seminary, Martha, Countess of Stamford and Trek, among other books, and had been short-listed for at least one major South African literary award.
The Wellington neighbourhood watch issued a statement on its Facebook page on behalf of the Rust family.
“By request and on behalf of Manie Rust and his family. Their thanks and appreciation to Wellington police station and the various departments and officers for their professionalism and communication throughout the investigation.”
