The founder of Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, commenced special prayers for Nigeria for the first time after the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as president of Nigeria.
The Bishop had also engaged in series of prayers for a peaceful election in Nigeria in 2015. He stopped after the election, which is seen as relatively peaceful.

However, one year into the administration of President Buhari, the country is generally believed to be groaning under a very harsh economic condition that is gasping for breadth.
Its currency, the naira, has been unofficially devalued with the prices of foodstuff at their highest so far.

The government recently announced a deregulation of the premium motor spirit forcing the price of petrol to officially jerk up to N145 from N86.50 per litre. The various labour unions are gearing for an industrial action that would shut down economic activities later this week.
Oyedepo lamented that many Nigerian workers were being owed salary by their various state governments.
In Bayelsa, for example, workers at the local government level are at loggerheads with the state governor, Seriake Dickson, after they refused his plan to pay just one month salary arrears even though the workers are reportedly being owed a full year salary arrears.
Close to the end of his sermon during the second service on Sunday, May 15, Oyedepo asked the congregation to rise to their feet and pray for the country.
NAIJ.com correspondent at the programme reports that he gave the prayer points asking that the congregation pray that God should not make Nigeria a reproach among other countries of the world or make it crash or go down.

He pleaded to God to forgive the sins of the citizens and heal the country as well as show the “leadership the way to do it.”
“Re-write our story, bail us out, do not make us a reproach before other countries,” he begged God.
Oyedepo’s prayer session came hours after a report of how governors misused funds accruing to their states thus plunging these states into heavy debts.
These governors, many of whom have failed to initiate ideas to generate revenue have only relied on the funds from the federal government and the meagre money they generate internally.
Quoting data obtained from the official website of Debt Management Office (DMO), the report quotes only Lagos, Rivers and Kano as capable of relying on internally generated revenue among the 36 states.
About two months ago, a Facebook user, Ajise Efeturi shared photos and testimony on behalf of a mad man who got his healing after Oyedepo’s picture made him go to church.
Efeturi wrote: “For seven years, Mr Isaiah has been mad but the picture of Bishop David Oyedepo dragged him to Living Faith Church Okpokunou in Delta state after the covenant hour of prayer this morning. God of Oyedepo healed him of madness. To God alone be all the Glory. We are truly in revival”.
